Additional learning support
At our school, we are committed to giving every student the opportunity to do his or her best. We offer universal, targeted and intensive programs and strategies to support student learning and wellbeing. We believe that every student should be valued for their abilities. When students need additional learning support, the school will design individual intensive learning plans.
Support that fits your child's needs
Some students need extra support to feel confident and do their best at school. All students should have the opportunity to access additional learning support. We work closely with families to make support plans and adjustments that suits each child’s needs.
Support plans and individualised learning
These types of supports are usually targeted towards students with specific learning needs, where staff, students and families work closely together:
-
teachers and support staff working together with families (and students, if needed)
-
individualised health, learning, behaviour and cultural plans
-
specialist support for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
-
intensive learning support mental health class
-
small group tutoring to provide targeted literacy and numeracy support for students including MacqLit
-
regular check-ins to review and update the planned supports
-
assessment adjustments:
- more time
- simpler language
- breaks during tasks
- different ways to complete a task (e.g. oral presentations instead of written tasks)
Support services, resources and opportunities
These types of supports are available and used by a wide range of students where students or staff can identify a need and access these when required:
-
the school's Learning Centre (Years 7-9) and Senior Study (Years 10-12)
-
providing tailored programs to help high potential and gifted students with their advanced learning needs
-
Homework Centre for all students who require additional space and support with homework (open everyday, before and after school)
-
access to online learning and homework including Google Classrooms, Atomi and Edrolo
-
changes to the classrooms:
- accessible classrooms
- assistive technology
- instructional resources
-
extra guidance, simpler content or different focus during lessons
We know when a student needs help when:
- teachers notice changes in learning or behaviour
- reviewing assessment results and learning progress
- parents and carers raise concerns or ask for support.
Adjustments are planned with parents and carers. They are reviewed regularly and changed when needed. If you think your child may need extra help, contact us.
